The Funeral Notice of Joan Kirkham

Joan passed away peacefully on Monday 8th January 2024 at Woodeaves Nursing home, aged 95.

The cherished wife of the late Bob Kirkham, loving mother to Yvonne & Jonathan, much loved Nan to Robert, Antony and Emma, sister of Joyce and aunt of Nigel.

Joan will be lovingly remembered for much more than just her voluntary work which has included being a junior church leader at the United Reformed Church on Antrobus street, a Congleton Borough Councillor for 13 years, the Chairman of Quinta school and also a manager on other local schools. Joan also fought with others to keep Congleton War Memorial hospital open, on Retirement helping in the Cancer Research shop and was a founder member and secretary for 17 years of Congleton Communicare.  Joan went above and beyond in all she did, nothing was too much trouble, working tirelessly for Congleton, fair minded with a fantastic sense of humour, devoting herself to family and anyone else she could possibly help. Joan loved the outdoors, gardening and rambling, she will be sadly missed by family, friends and all who knew her.

The funeral will be held at Birches Crematorium, Lach Dennis, at 1pm on Thursday 1st February 2024. The family have requested only family or very close friends attend as per Joan’s wishes.

The family are truly grateful for all the kind messages of condolences and cards that have been sent in Joan’s memory.

We request that instead of flowers, donations can be made to The Christie at Macclesfield, Congleton Communicare, or Alzheimer’s charities. A donation box will be available at the service, however donations can be sent via the funeral directors.

FAQs & Advice

We’re always happy to talk to you if you have any questions or queries regarding our services, but you may find the answers you need among our Frequently Asked Questions. If you still need help, please call our friendly team at any time.

We answer our phone 24 hours a day, no matter what we are doing. We would rather you call us at 3am and then get a good night’s sleep, rather than waiting until 10am and being up all night worrying about something. We’re here to support you, no matter what time it is.
No. You don’t need to wait for the doctor, death certificate, registrar or the coroner before making arrangements. We’re experienced and we’re professional in our approach to how we arrange funerals. We work to realistic timelines to ensure that a funeral can be completed in a timely manner. This is usually within two weeks of someone passing away. If we waited for death certificates before we began making the arrangements, this would probably extend to over three weeks.
We can offer a direct cremation service, like you may have seen on TV with the likes of Pure and Simplicita, for £1200 (inclusive of all fees). We can offer a simple attended funeral, again fully inclusive of all fees (doctors, cremation, celebrant fees), for £2600. For a traditional funeral service that may include things like flowers, an order of service, newspaper notices, a limousine etc, you should expect a total cost of approximately £3500 to £4000.
