Obituary and Memorial of the Late Anthony Hill

The funeral service of Anthony ‘Tony’ Hill took place on Wednesday 30th August 2023, at Birches Crematorium, Northwich. The service was conducted by civil celebrant, Laura Doherty.

Anthony ‘Tony’ Hill was born on the 14th June 1944 in Abbeyleix in Southern Ireland, he was brought up by his grandma who was a formidable lady who he loved and respected. Growing up his playground was the De Vesci estate which was over 1000 acres of forests, fields and park, he grew up loving the outdoors and exploring, as well as a spot of poaching and scrumping. He played Hurling and was good enough to play for the county.

Tony started working in hotels, first in Ireland at the age of 15, and then moved to England continuing to work in the hotel industry. It was while working in London in the same hotel that Tony first met his future wife, it was love at first sight and they married on the 27th Dec 1969, Tony said it was the best day of his life.  The couple lived in Huddersfield in Yorkshire and were managing hotels for Frank Roberto.

Frank asked them to have a look at a pretty little hotel in Sandbach, and as soon as they saw it, they fell in love with the place. They spent many happy years managing the Old Hall, Tony loved his time here and being at the centre of the community, and the status that came with it. Tony was well known in Sandbach, he always made an impression on people.  He strongly believed in always being smartly dressed, being well spoken, loving a good chat, and having good manners.

Tony was a great golfer and is a past captain of Malkins bank golf club proudly earning his name all over the winner’s boards at the club.

Tony was thrilled when he became a grandad, he adored his grandchildren and he was very proud of them and both of his children.

After a happy and successful life, sadly Tony’s health began to deteriorate and he passed away peacefully on Sunday 13th August 2023 aged 79, with Nikki and James by his side.

Tony’s funeral was held at Birches Crematorium, Northwich on Wednesday 30th August 2023 and conducted by Civil Celebrant Laura Doherty.

Tony was brought into the chapel accompanied by ‘The Rustle of Spring’ by Christian Sinding.

Laura welcomed everyone to Tony’s service, followed by tributes to their father from Tony’s son, James, and daughter Nikki.

The service continued with a visual tribute, photo slideshow with music for reflection, ‘Wonderful Land’ by The Shadows.

Laura closed the service with a reading prior to the committal and words of thanksgiving. As Tony’s service concluded mourners filed past his coffin as ‘Go Your Own Way’ by Fleetwood Mac played.

FAQs & Advice

We’re always happy to talk to you if you have any questions or queries regarding our services, but you may find the answers you need among our Frequently Asked Questions. If you still need help, please call our friendly team at any time.

We answer our phone 24 hours a day, no matter what we are doing. We would rather you call us at 3am and then get a good night’s sleep, rather than waiting until 10am and being up all night worrying about something. We’re here to support you, no matter what time it is.
No. You don’t need to wait for the doctor, death certificate, registrar or the coroner before making arrangements. We’re experienced and we’re professional in our approach to how we arrange funerals. We work to realistic timelines to ensure that a funeral can be completed in a timely manner. This is usually within two weeks of someone passing away. If we waited for death certificates before we began making the arrangements, this would probably extend to over three weeks.
We can offer a direct cremation service, like you may have seen on TV with the likes of Pure and Simplicita, for £1200 (inclusive of all fees). We can offer a simple attended funeral, again fully inclusive of all fees (doctors, cremation, celebrant fees), for £2600. For a traditional funeral service that may include things like flowers, an order of service, newspaper notices, a limousine etc, you should expect a total cost of approximately £3500 to £4000.
